Class Levels

Beginning Classes

Our Beginning classes are a one-month introduction to the sport of fencing—no previous experience necessary! Perfect for students who are brand new or who need a refresher, these classes cover the basics: on guard stance, footwork, safety rules, essential bladework, and simple tactics. By the end of the month, students will be sparring with others on the electric scoring equipment.

We introduce both foil and epee during the Beginning session, allowing students to explore both weapons before choosing one to continue with. New Beginning classes start every month from September through June, and we also offer free trial classes monthly.

After completing one month of Beginning class—or a week of summer camp—students may move on to the Continuing class for their chosen weapon.

New for 2026: Little Knights! Kids ages 5-6 can learn the basics of fencing through movement exercises and games. Class is once a week for 45 minutes.

Areas of focus include good technique, basic tactical ideas, focus and attention, and friendly competition and sportsmanship. Most students should expect to stay at the Continuing level for several months.

Elite

Elite classes represent our highest level of training, designed for nationally competitive athletes seeking rigorous, focused preparation. This program combines intensive athletic conditioning, advanced technical drills, and structured, scenario-based bouting to refine performance under pressure. A commitment of 6–8 hours per week is required, and enrollment is by instructor approval only. The qualification standard for Elite classes is intentionally high to ensure the appropriate level of training and focus. One class session per week is a group athletic conditioning class run by a professional athletic trainer.
