We offer several beginner classes for a variety of age groups. We teach the basics -- footwork, bladework, and rules of the sport -- in a safe, positive environment.
When Are Beginner Classes? Kids Classes (ages 8-11)
Junior Classes (ages 11-16)
Adult Class (ages 16+)
All classes meet twice a week, and continue month-to-month. We take new beginners every other month: in September, November, January, March, and May. Continuing students may join classes at the beginning of any month. The classes listed above are Beginning/Continuing classes. New beginners start under the supervision of a separate coach, and gradually become integrated with the rest of the class. After the first two months, students may stay in the Continuing class at the same time, or switch to a different Continuing class session. Click here to see our complete class schedule. What Do I Need To Start? We provide all fencing-related equipment as part of the class. Students should wear a T-shirt, long pants such as sweat pants or athletic warmups, and clean athletic shoes (no street shoes). Slip-on "athletic-style" shoes do not provide enough lateral support and are unsuitable for fencing. When you decide it's time to get your own gear, Rain City Fencing Center also sells new fencing equipment. A basic four-piece uniform costs approximately $125. How Much Does It Cost? The fee for all kids and junior classes is $125 per month, $75 for short months (December and June). Our beginning adult class is a 6-week session for $190. Adult students may continue the remainder of the month for an additional $60. Class fees include use of all equipment during class times, plus students can participate in open fencing practices. Students can use electric gear during open fencing and tournaments for an additional $25/month. Other DetailsGroup classes are the best way to learn beginning fencing, and the most fun for kids. Generally our coaches' schedules do not allow us to teach beginners with private lessons. Due to the large number of fencing competitions scheduled on weekends, and because most of our staff are either coaching, refereeing, or organizing at these competitions, we are unable to offer weekend classes at this time. |
