We offer weekly half-day camps for kids and teenagers during the summer. We teach the basics -- footwork, bladework and rules -- in a safe, positive environment. Fencers new and returning will get plenty of opportunities to use their new skills in bouting situations. There are three weapons in fencing: foil, sabre, and epee. All have different target areas and different strategies. We teach foil in all of our Beginner camps. We also have Second Week camps for foil fencers who have taken a beginner camp or a couple of months of classes. We offer Intermediate camps in foil and epee for fencers with a year or more of experience in that weapon. New this year! We are also offering epee camps to juniors who have some foil or epee experience. Epee doesn't have the priority rules of foil. The first one to make a touch wins the point. Target in epee is the entire body, head to toe. If you are interested in the epee camp, see the information on Intermediate Camps in the next section for details. Camp Levels Our summer camps divide campers by age and level of fencing experience: - Beginning Camps: For the beginning student; no previous fencing experience required.
- Second Week Beginning Camps: For campers who have taken a Beginning level camp and want to learn more. Also appropriate for students who have taken fewer than six months of classes.
- Epee as a Second Weapon: For students with several months of foil experience. No epee experience is required.
- Intermediate Camps: For students who have fenced before and have a year or more of fencing instruction. Instructor approval is required before signing up for these camps. Students in the Intermediate Epee camp should have prior epee experience.
Age Ranges Our Kids sessions are designed for smaller and younger children, ages 8-11. Junior sessions are for older students, but kids as young as 11 are welcome to sign up. Most Kids sessions meet from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon each day. All Juniors sessions meet from 1:30 to 4:30 PM each day.
